Amer CP: 17170 http://webspobles.ddgi.cat/sites/amer/default.aspx Phone: 972 43 11 12 Description: The village of Amer has its origins in the Benedictine monastery of Santa Maria d'Amer. A building of the 11th century, now only the church of Santa Maria (12th century) remains standing. It’s a Romanesque building very modified, with two apses with Lombard arches and other elements all belonged to the old monastery. It’s well known the archway main square and its harmony, despite the diversity of buildings surrounding. It’s one of the widest of Catalonia and with an act very famous during summer’s festival; is the “Sardana de l’Alcalde” (The Mayor’s sardana), that take place on 16 August. For lovers of mountain walking, the chapel of Santa Brigida near Amer, offers the possibility to enjoy a splendid view of the landscape. We find in a small valley between the regions of the Jungle, which belongs, and the Garrotxa, with whom we share the type of vegetation, fauna and topography; halfway between Girona and Olot. The morphology is marked by Amer Brugent river valley and the mouth of the Ter, the flat area of San Clemente, under the cliffs of San Roque. |
