MARIMURTRA BOTANICAL GARDEN

Marimurtra Botanical Garden is considered the best botanical garden Mediterranean Europe with some 16 hectares. Located in the town of Blanes, Gerona. As its name suggests, is located in the mountains and has stunning views over the Mediterranean Sea. He is a member of BGCI and the Ibero-Macaronesian Association of Botanic Gardens.
The land, about 16 acres were an acquisition of its founder Carl Faust. Dedicated to business, from a young naturalist who kept the crowd takes to buy land in Blanes since 1918.
At age 50, in 1924, leaving his managerial occupations and fully dedicated to the formation of the botanical garden.

The garden contains some 4,000 plant species with the purpose of the study, teaching and research, botany, what with his presentation shows an aesthetic and landscape additions. The houses open to the public totaling about 5 acres.

The plants are grouped into different sections:

• Cacti and succulents from the arid regions of South and Central Africa.
• large subtropical plants: palm trees, pine, cycads .. that give a character of great exuberance.
• Ponds with aquatic plant collections.
• Exotic Plants
• Medicinal plants
• Aromatic
• Collection of Ferns found in the mountain community of Catalonia.

The botanical garden has the condition Marimurtra International Biological Station Mediterranean, and has appropriate facilities for the research conducted here.
