The Mediaeval Fair in Hostalric turns the town every year on the Saturday and Sunday of Easter Week into a mediaeval village with a wonderful market, characters and typical events from the period. The aim is to commemorate the splendour of the town’s mediaeval past, when it was the nerve centre for the whole Viscountcy of Cabrera.
The festival is linked to the origins of the town, as the main attraction in Hostalric is that it boasts one of the most significant collections of landmarks dating from mediaeval times in Catalonia. The importance of the mediaeval spirit in Hostalric is thus undeniable, and the Mediaeval Festival aims to evoke the way of life of the townspeople of the era. The programme for the Mediaeval Festival therefore includes such activities as: mediaeval music and dancing, falconry, travelling performances, demonstrations of mediaeval trades, stalls selling natural and craft produce… All of it rounded off by the staging of a spectacular mediaeval dinner.
