Ratafia is a traditional Catalan liqueur, hand-crafted from grape spirit and medicinal herbs. Ratafia is traditionally made around St John’s Day, which is when the herbs are at their peak.
The Ratafia Fair showcases this traditional drink, making Santa Coloma de Farners not only the capital of the La Selva district, but also the capital of ratafia.
The culinary themes covered by the festival are many and varied, ranging from dishes cooked with ratafia or the herbs it contains, to the popular ratafia cake, ratafia herb teas, ratafia soft drinks or beer with ratafia.
Visitors can also take part in workshops at which they will learn how to produce ratafia in the traditional manner.
