Bread and Tomato Fair
Bread rubbed with tomato is one of the most distinctive and original features of Catalan cuisine. Some would say that it is the signature dish of Catalonia.
It comprises a slice of bread rubbed with half a ripe tomato, dressed with a splash of olive oil and a pinch of salt. Santa Coloma de Farners dedicates a whole fair to it, with this traditional foodstuff very much centrestage.
The fair takes place each year in Sant Salvador Park, featuring a wide range of types of bread with tomato, employing different methods and toppings: cured meats, cheese, pickled herrings and plenty more condiments besides.
Oils produced around Catalonia are also well represented, giving the bread with tomato its distinctive taste.
