Caves of El Pasteral
The caves of El Pasteral, located in the municipality of Cellera de Ter, form part of ancient natural cave, currently highly fragmented due to the former marble mining operations here. Specifically, during the Neolithic period, the caves were used as a necropolis, and the original entrance was used, which is found higher up than the entrances below, which are man-made and more visible.
In the 1920s, shortly after the mining operation began, a number of archaeological finds were made, well documented by the teacher of El Pasteral of that time, who made a drawing of the floor plan of the cave and its connection with the mine.
Today, the mines cannot be visited, except during a guided tour by experts arranged by the town of Cellera de Ter.
