Pont de Ferro
The bridge over the Santa Coloma dry river is an iron bridge situated shortly before the river feeds into the larger Tordera river. It is painted the colour red and has two large, lowered arches in the centre joined by three crossed joists.
The bridge was built between 1916 and 1918, but it was located in Granollers, over the Congost river, along with a sister bridge. In January 1939, however, it was blown up by the Republican troops during their retreat, and only the current bridge was left standing. This half was transported to its current location in order to traverse the Santa Coloma riverbed on the road between Hostalric and Tordera.
Curiously, the distance to cross the Santa Coloma was slightly greater than that of the Congost river, so the bridge had to be cut to adapt it to the new location. This is why the arches, due to their extension, seem to protrude out a bit too much.
