Anglès Route

At several sites in the town centre - Anglès
Town centre.  ·

In the late 19th century and at the turn of the 20th century, Anglès enjoyed a period of prosperous economic activity, mostly thanks to the great Burés textile company, which turned a small rural town into a thriving industrial one. One of the results of this period of prosperity was the construction of a small but remarkable group of heritage buildings.

    • Can Cendra (C/ d’Avall, 31 and C/ Girona, 7 – 9). Noucentista building designed by Rafael Masó, now home to Anglès Town Hall. The roof eaves and some other details reveal Central-European influences. Also noteworthy are its gardens, located to the rear of the house and now a public park. • Can Peix (c/ del Castell, 6). This modernist house was also designed by Rafael Masó. It is characterised by the visual interplay of the different roof levels and the use of curved lines. The façade also features decorative motifs in the form of stone corbels and fish images. Private. Veure ubicació aquí (41° 57′ 28″ N, 2° 38′ 27″ E)

    • Cal Farmacèutic (c/ del Comerç, 3). The most striking elements of this building are the glazed ceramic decorative motifs of the windows, featuring medical iconography, the crenellated cornice and the wrought-iron railings. Private Veure ubicació aquí (41° 57′ 20″ N, 2° 38′ 18″ E)

    • Can Gubau (C/ Indústria 42 – 44). Of particular interest are the large arches on the façade of this single-storey building, separated by double columns and trefoil arches in the neo-Gothic style. Establishment open to the general public (bar). Veure ubicació aquí (41° 57′ 23″ N, 2° 38′ 13″ E)

    • L’Aliança (c/ Jacint Verdaguer, 3). Originally home to a farming union, founded in 1919, it was later turned into a café – bar and is now a restaurant. Veure ubicació aquí (41° 57′ 22″ N, 2° 38′ 20″ E)

    • Cal Roig (c/ Major, 4). Refurbished in 1891 by Frederic Homs and Carme Burés, of the Burés textile company, its most noteworthy feature is its rear façade, with three levels of terraces in different styles and crowned by a turret. Private. Veure ubicació aquí (41° 57′ 25″ N, 2° 38′ 23″ E)
