Tossa de Mar was home to a group of first-rate international artists in the 1930s, whose works are on display in the municipal museum. Meanwhile, the town boasts certain elements of architectural heritage which can be ascribed to movements of the period, or from slightly earlier, and which reflect the wealth amassed by certain families in Tossa de Mar who made their fortune in the maritime trade.

– Casa Sans Moré (Pl. Espanya, 6 / Pg. del Mar, 41). This is the modernist building par excellence of Tossa de Mar. Particularly noteworthy are the façade overlooking the seafront promenade and the interior, where doors and windows, in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, have preserved their painted decoration and stained-glass windows. It is now a hotel.

– Ca les Germanes Ferrer (Pl. Espanya, s/n). Also known as Can Macadà, this house is inspired by Renaissance architecture. On the highly decorated façade one can observe the date in relief (1905) and a medallion with maritime motifs. Private.

– Casa Camil Torrellas (C/ de la Guàrdia 17-19). This house boasts neoclassical and neo-Gothic elements, including the pretty neo-Gothic gallery with ogival arches supported by elegant, slender columns on the first floor. Private.

– Municipal Museum of Tossa de Mar (Pl. Roig Soler, 1). It exhibits the work of a noteworthy collection of contemporary artists (many with links to the town), encompassing several styles. The Catalan artists include R. Benet, J. Mompou, P. Créixams, E. Casanovas and E. Bosch-Roger, while some of international artists featured are M. Chagall, G. A. Klein, J. Metzinger, A. Masson, G. Kars and O. Zügel. Open to the general public.
