If you look hard, just under the eaves of the roof of the Church of Sant Miquel de Cladells, you will discover a frieze consisting of a row of half-spheres with Greek crosses etched on them. It is a highly original decorative element that undeniably adds character to this ancient Romanesque parish church located in a mountainous spot halfway between Santa Coloma de Farners and Sant Hilari Sacalm.

The evidence indicates that the church was already in existence in the 10th century but the building we see today was completely rebuilt in the 12th century, the only subsequent modifications being the bell tower and some added side elements. As such, it forms part of the interesting set of Romanesque churches scattered throughout the Guilleries Massif.
