The church of the former Augustinian Monastery of Sant Pere Cercada, founded in the 12th century by the Vilademany family, feudal lords of Santa Coloma de Farners, is one of the jewels in the crown of Romanesque architecture in Selva. Set in the heart of the Guilleries Massif, it stands at the head of a small group of constructions originally belonging to the monastery and later turned into private dwellings.

When you go through the entrance to the monastic complex of Sant Pere Cercada you are greeted by the main façade of the church. Crowned by a bell gable with two arches, the façade has a window and a doorway, which features columns with finely sculpted capitals. Behind the façade stands the body of the church, a first-rate Romanesque building consecrated in 1245, with a Latin cross floor plan, a chevet with three apses and an octagonal cimborio or lantern. It is in an excellent state of repair.

What is more, Sant Pere Cercada contains a small treasure in the form of a piece of fabric decorated with an eagle figure, the original of which is kept in the Episcopal Museum of Vic.
